The meaning of work in the Viceroyalty of Peru

This article aims to offer a brief report of the meaning of labour in the Viceroyalty of Peru. That is to say, we aim to discover the relation that was established between the Old and the New world in 1492 through labour and its legal recognition. The paper is organized in three parts; firstly, we present the methods of labour organization, the benefits of Social protection and the tools used in the field of social protection in the pre-Hispanic period. Then, we developed the Viceroyalty of Peru as a political-administrative entity, we go further into its methods of labour organization, the laws of Burgos and the Indies, and the social welfare in the colonial period. Finally, the third part shows the facts that caused the end of the Viceroyalty and the political independence of Spain.
